Pregnancy Diary: Week 27

Well, my pregnancy diary just wouldn't be the same without the obligatory size (guesstimate) updates, so you might be interested to know that baba probably weighs just over 1kg by now and has grown 1cm since last week and is now 24cm long – top to tail. Can you tell from the belly pics? That bulge is definitely a bump now...

I'm not usually one to complain about the weather – but the heat did get to me a little this week, especially Monday. My last ballet class was a stretching class because I just couldn't face standing for another 45 minutes! The girls (and boy) seemed to appreciate it. Most of them are going through that preteen growth spurt, so I find it really helps for them to stretch their muscles while their bones are growing at such a rate. They were all overheating as well, so it was win-win all around I think! Just to give you some idea of the temperatures - it has been maxing at about 35° C discomfort levels... usually manageable, but hectic when pregnant, especially without aircon!

Yes, I am the kind of person who thinks of funny things to say ahead of time and then hopes I find a spot to actually use them...

About the ballet teaching, I thought of a funny comment I'm saving to use in about a month's time. It goes something along the lines of: 'I may not be able to see my feet, but I can see yours and they are not stretching!' Yes, I am the kind of person who thinks of funny things to say ahead of time and then hopes I find a spot to actually use them, that's just me.

...our hospital plan will still only pay less than half the cost of the homebirth...

Some not so good news is that our hospital plan will still only pay less than half the cost of the homebirth, even though we are saving them a HUGE amount. But then I suppose the amount we would have to pay in if I had a gynae at the hospital would be more than the total cost of the home birth! So we'll make a plan...

It's such a pleasure to be married to such a Godly man!

Yesterday (Thursday) was Hubby's last day at the company where he was working, and I sobbed with relief when he got home! He has really struggled with the work environment, and I just want to honour him by mentioning that I have been so grateful that he hasn't allowed that to affect our relationship negatively, and that he hasn't taken his frustrations out on us by withdrawing or getting cranky or anything like that. It's such a pleasure to be married to such a Godly man! It really is easy to respect him!

Two other fun things this week – I was given my first outfit for the new baby! It's so tiny! And fluffy! And pink! (cluck cluck…)

We have a monstrous bean bag that doesn't really have a spot at the moment...

The second thing was a seriously cool brainwave I had. The birth pools my midwife hires out are made of 2 pieces of fiberglass which you bolt together. You then line the inside with blankets / cushions and then a layer (or two depending on how valuable your carpet is,) of industrial plastic. Now we don't have many pillows, cushions or spare blankets, at least not many that I can spare for the time it will take to fill, use and empty the pool again, but I had a brainwave. The beanbag! We have a monstrous bean bag that doesn't really have a spot at the moment, but I think it can redeem itself by forming a little reclining spot on one end of the pool (under the plastic of course). Yay!

Week 28 of my pregnancy diary next week, which means an appointment with the doctor, so I'll let you know how that goes! (I'm alternating doctor/midwife each month.) Otherwise, who knows? (I promise I didn't mean that to rhyme.)
