Pregnancy Diary: Week 33

Belly Pic 33 weeks
My Belly at 33 weeks...
Like I promised in last week's pregnancy diary we finally got around to our 32 week appointment! But we'll get to that in a second. According to the averages, littlest is over 43cm long, and about 1.9kg. Shew! No wonder strangers and acquaintances feel safe just asking when I'm due. Some are even going so far as to comment that it must be only a short time left. With seven or so weeks to go I feel that is a little unwarranted! Heck, I'm not that big! But then I suppose this belly does look big on this frame, and seven weeks may seem short to some, but it seems long to me! I don't know, you look at the pics and you decide.

I'm feeling more prepared and confident...

Well, had a really great appointment with the midwife this week. We spent about an hour chatting about practicalities of water birth and various birth positions, and my expectations of the birth, and who we'd like to have there with us, it was really great! Things are feeling more and more real now! And I'm feeling more prepared and confident too. It seems like abstract knowledge and practical reality are getting closer and closer together, as the opportunity to put that knowledge into practice is getting closer too!

I'm really looking forward to birthing this little one myself...

I'm really looking forward to birthing this little one myself - breathing the baby out (as opposed to 'purple pushing') when I get the urge, guiding the head out and supporting my perineum myself if necessary - rather than lying / sitting back and letting the experts take over. Of course, that may change depending on the circumstances, but that's what I'm aiming for!

Speaking of who we'd like to have with us on our little one's birth-day, I wrote a letter to the ladies we'd like to have join us and I've posted it here for you to read if you're interested. I think those who have read it would recommend it - it does share something of my heart and intentions for the upcoming birth...

I'm feeling pressure in all sorts of areas where there wasn't pressure before.

The last couple of days it has really felt as though littlest has changed position again. I'm feeling pressure in all sorts of areas where there wasn't pressure before. She's still head down though, which I'm quite grateful for, but someone who has seen me a couple of times this pregnancy did comment that my belly seems to have dropped a little too, and I must admit it does feel lower than before. I don't think I can extrapolate anything from that though. The toddler's head was fully engaged for a couple of weeks before she was born, so we just keep on keeping on!

On land I'm feeling a bit like a beached whale, especially when it comes to moving between standing, sitting and lying down!

With the belly getting bigger I am appreciating my bi-weekly aqua more and more! I'm normally quite an agile and mobile person, and I get to feel like that when I'm in the water. On land I'm feeling a bit like a beached whale, especially when it comes to moving between standing, sitting and lying down! Unfortunately we'll have to stop at the end of this month (2 weeks left!) as the weather is getting colder and colder. The pool is heated and covered and enclosed, but it just gets a bit too cold after a while, and we are reaching that point. I'll just have to do some more walking then.

With reference to our open letter I mentioned earlier, I thought this quote might be apt as my birth quote for this week:

Well behaved women rarely make history.
Laurel Thatcher Ulrich
Anyway, I'm sure Week 34 of my pregnancy diary will be up sooner than we think! Until then...
